I'm experiencing the same issue: There are blinking green and orange lights on my iPod Shuffle, and it won't play. I reset it, but nothing helps. Windows Explorer displays the iPod as a drive, but it will not display the files on the drive. iTunes does not recognize the iPod even though iPodService.exe is running just fine in the background. UGH!

  I brought the iPod Shuffle into the Apple Store, and they replaced it for free even though it's about 4 months out of warranty (about 7 months old).
  
  Apple clearly knows that some iPod Shuffles are defective.
