Weblog:   Nessus 3.0 on Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy)
Subject:   Unable to connect

Hi Justin,
I installed Nessus 2.2.6 on my KUbuntu using the Nessus-installer script on nessus.org. But for some reason I cannot connect to my nessusd.
I can see the nessusd running in the ps aux output. Also, if I issue netstat -anp, I see the nessusd running on port 1241.
When I try running the nessus client, I just get the error : "Could not open a connection to localhost". Also, I cannot connect from a remote machine.
Just to see if I could make any connections to this machine...I could connect to the nessus hosting machine using SSH. Also, I can open a telnet session on port 1241 from the remote machine. But I cannot connect with the client.
I've used the same nessus client to other nessusds. Could you guess what the problem is?

Thanks,
Rajat.

    Hey dude,

Have you run the nessus-mkcert to make the server cert? And added a user using nessus-adduser?

BTW, If you're running the current KUbuntu, you should be able to get Nessus 3.0.1 working from the Debian 3.x .deb file.

yeah...I've run both the nessus-mkcert as well as the nessus-adduser. Not only that I'm using Authentication by password.
