Don't suppose anybody is still checking this topic out... It'd be great to get an updated version of the article that addresses the current state of affairs with each of these components as of OS X 10.4.

    I think you'll find there are other sources on the web that explain how to do this in 10.4. Essentially, everything is built in, you just have to uncomment the WebDAV modules in httpd.conf and set up your authentication.
