Make sure the box next to each song in your playlist is checked. Otherwise, you'll get a solid green light and no sound (because you've indicated to ipod that there's nothing in your playlist you want to play).

  my music off itunes has beeen transfered onto my ipod but when i turn it on i get a green light which doesnt go and no sound i followed your advice by making sure all my songs were checked but still there is no difference
