I made a couple of changes to get the Marc Liyanage's StartupItem script to work with the source install. add MYSQL=-YES- to /etc/hostconfig delete /Library/StartupItems/MySQL/Resources (for simplicity) Comment out the following two lines of /Library/StartupItems/MySQL/MySQL like this: #REALDIR=`perl -e 'print readlink "mysql"'` #cd $REALDIR
