it's getting to the point where, even though it's fascinating (like the almost psychotropic mandelbrot set), i'd like to have the option to just be left alone, outside the madding sphere of this beehive of technophilia! there really is no "opt-out" in any of this. even if you claim there is, the erosion brought about by the tendency towards the path of least resistence ultimately prevails. like einstein pointed out, technology continually exceeds the human being's ethical development and willingness -- because there's this tendancy (even if publicly denied) to seek the _advantage_.

  The best way to be left alone is to be boring. Security through obscurity. And whatever you do, don't write books or blogs or comment on articles.

  Is the one who bores the bored boring or just outside the scope of appreciation of the one bored? "Security through obscurity" -- obscurity here means... Socially ostracized?
  
  There is always a balance and technology will always seek a balance. The balance in the short-term, though, is within the common ground of the level of consciousness upheld most commonly (LCD). That common consciousness isn't public, it's private. The public sphere tends to obscure it. But the private is what determines our actions and therefore the social milieu. That's what does and will determine how technology is used. It still seems a useful point to make.
