Put into a provocative statement: the middle tier is implemented as a set of stored procedures.


Indeed, all textbook references promoting the three tier architecture were only just covering up for the fact that the databases we used (mysql, etc.) were simply not sophisticated enough.


All business logic ultimately belongs in the database, where it can be accessed with a simple presentation layer only application.
