If you want to run bbedit from Unix command line in OS X, you need to install a separate piece. I found it in the BBEdit Extras folder and is called BBEdit Unix Tools Installer.dmg. -

What if I don't have BBEdit and want to use something already on my system such as AppleWorks 6 or TextEdit? How would I enter that on the prompt line? I've been working on this step of the tutorial for about 3 hours now w/o a hint of luck.

i used sudo pico instead... but forgot to backup and now it's not working and it's a bit of a disaster... so make sure you backup. but otherwise, i can't see why you can't use pico.
let me know if you get it to work.
