Did you measure the noise at various locations before and after the fan installation? Wasn't your goal to lower noise in the living room?

I didn't really have to measure. The AMD retail cooler was just that loud. Before, I could always hear some fan whine, especially when the fan ramped up. Afterwards, the fan rotates so much slower (<2000 RPM for the Zalman, as opposed to >5000 RPM for the AMD) that the Zalman is inaudible from the couch. If I'd been working with a smaller difference in sound levels, I might have had to measure. The difference between my two parts was night and day, and the human ear was sensitive enough.
