Subject:   Audio chip on the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum?

I have used the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) with MythTV, and it's clearly the way to go. My nForce3-based motherboard has an nVidia CK8S chip for built-in sound, which is supported by the intel8x0 driver in ALSA.

I looked at MSI's product page for the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, and I cannot find any mention of the nVidia CK8S chip being used for audio. Instead, it appears that the RealTek ALC850 is used. I have been looking for an nForce3 board to use with mythtv, and those that I have run across so far all use the Realtek ALC850, which is not on the ALSA supported list (http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/). Can you clarify a little more as to how you are getting the on-board sound working with this unsupported audio device?
Thanks...

I use the intel8x0 driver. The driver detects my chip as an nVidia CK8S. (You're right, though. If I crack the case and look at it, it appears to be an ALC850.) I have my distribution set up to load intel8x0 when the system starts.

For configuration, I'm using the "definitive" asoundrc from http://www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/DigitalSoundHowTo. It works for me, even though it's described as for the nForce 2/4. In MythTV, I set up "ALSA:default" as the playback device.
