So far I have yet to see an image from the 5D that doesn't exhibit corner softness (i.e. the corners don't just vignette - they are visibly soft).


People who know more about digital sensors than I do tell me this is due to the photosites being wells, and thus is an effect you wouldn't get with the same lenses on a film 35mm. But I'd love to hear your take on this -- what are the corners like in the first image of this article?

    Right now I don't have access to that image (I'm on assignment in Europe), but looking at some other images I have, it's a mixed bag. Some images exhibit some obvious softness right in the corners, others don't so much. Without solid testing, I couldn't say if it's lens effects or the sensor itself.

    But, in every image I've shot it's not been an issue except in a pixel-peeping way. If anything, I'm typically bothered more by the way the full frame high-resolution images can easily show the failures in my own technique. :)
