Well, Jive is indeed a jabber server. Do not forget that jabberd is a reference implementation (but a very good one)



And it is open source.
Fine ! The problem is, Java isn't... Practically, this means that 1) you can't get Java to run natively on certain platforms (*BSD for amd64) and 2) you can't be assured that Sun won't revoke its license for a currently supported platform (read "the Java Trap" by Richard Stallman)
