U do not need a subquery to achieve this. This can also be achieved by using a simple update query Update tablename set salary = salary + (salary * .05)

  It is very easy. Use the table and write REPLACE ALL SALARY WITH SALARIO*1.05 or UPDATE tablename set salary = salary * 1.05
