He also mentioned Splash! (http://anoncvs.aldigital.co.uk/splash/) as an alternative to using a hardware load balancer with stickiness to save on SSL overhead. In a web farm type environment, you can take a hit if users bounce from machine to machine and re-negotiate the SSL handshake each time. Theo said you can use Splash! to implement a session cache that will share the initial handshake among your machines.


There don't appear to be any docs, but the author mentions that Apache-SSL has an example.
