I am a huge fan of Distributed Processing. You're right Logic has been doing this since releasing version 7, about a year now: http://www.apple.com/logicpro/distributedaudio.html


It simply uses the Ethernet port of the computer. Amazing.


And now Waves has created it's own box called APA32 and APA44-M. http://waves.com/content.asp?id=1622


These boxes also use the ethernet port and for me, this is the future of portable technology. Digidesign MUST be developing one, or so I hope. Maybe by the time I write the article, I will have more info on that...


I don't know about distributed processing for PC's. I know the Waves boxes will work BUT that limits you to Waves plug-ins only. When someone develops a cross platform processing box that will work for ALL instruments and plug-ins, I will be first in line!! I'll save you a spot too...


I'll do more research on this for the artcle. Thanks for the suggestion.

    FX Teleport (http://www.fxteleport.com) is a host-slave system that sends MIDI and audio over an Ethernet LAN, synchronizing VST instruments and effects running on each computer. I don’t think processing is dynamically allocated, but latencies are reportedly in the 6 to 9ms range, and unlike Steinberg’s VST System Link (http://tinyurl.com/75sh9), it doesn’t require an audio card on each computer. —David Battino
