  You may be one of the people who won't save money. However, DSL and a residential phone line with absolutely no features and no long distance often costs less than DSL, a residential phone line and a limited broadband phone service account. Getting free long distance to frequent call subjects, such as family back home, makes Internet telephony cost effective for many users.
  
  Also, pressure is mounting on SBC and others to offer "naked" DSL, which is broadband without a residential phone account. And if cable is an option, your bundled price on cable Internet and a broadband phone service may be less than what SBC would charge you.
