Canon PowerShot SD200: A Big Little Camera
Subject:   Concern over LCD and E18

I am looking into buying the sd200. I love the small size with large screen. But I am hesitant because I have seen many online compaints about the LCD screen cracking, and the E18 error, apparently caused by a malfunction with the lens. The complaints also state that Canon's customer service is lacking and they refuse to pay for the reapirs. Are these problems common in the sd200? I want the camera for my trip to Europe and would hate to have it break on me over there. Please let me know if I should reconsider my purchase.

I don't think anyone can promise you that your LCD won't crack. I am not familiar with the E18 error. Physical damage can generally be reduced by storing a camera properly during transport and being careful during use.

I took my SD200 with me to Japan and used it to take most of the photos you see in this article:

The camera returned with me undamaged and still in operation. Of course, I placed it in a small padded case anytime I was not actually taking photos. So, that helped it avoid damaging the LCD.
