You're idea and the implementation is a real beauty. Well we would love to use it in our content management system, but we didn't see you mention any kind of JTA support. Is this a unmentioned or a non-existent feature?

Sorry for being so late :) and responding in 2011.
Thanks for making us realize the "immense" need for XA support over file-systems. There is a project called XADisk (https://xadisk.dev.java.net/) I have been working on to provide this highly-looked-for transactional strength. Please let me know if this serves the purpose for you.

We are now in 2006. Has someone done something to implemtent File Transaction in a JTA form compliant ?
