I have been testing out Xsan on my Xserves, and the biggest flaw I see is that Retrospect, the most common backup software running on Macs, does not support Xsan volumes.

I'm guessing it's because an Xsan volume doesn't show up in /etc/fstab. But Retrospect should rely on the OS to determine if it's a real volume, ie it shows up in /Volumes.

Here's hoping an update, and not an upgrade, is coming soon.

So, it sounds like the problem is with Retrospect and not Xsan, right? Have you tried applying pressure on Dantz to see if they plan on adding Xsan support?

If enough people bark at them and ask for support, that should help them make what should be an easy decision.

    Just a thought.
