Try this for your servlet-mapping. There is a small difference. I struggled with this myself for weeks and finally looked at one of the examples and trial and error - - it worked.

It worked..Thanks a lot...I had a doubt on absence of server mapping the moment I saw the xml file...but your help confirmed my doubt..I think Oreilly guys must make this correction in the tutorial
