My os is win xp pro. I have installed mysql on my system. When I run as sql statement to create a db or table or select some data, it works fine. If I write a cgi script in Perl and use DBI, I get an error that "localhost" has been denied access to tne MySQL database. Do you have any suggestiions? I would like to start learning PHP but want to get this resolved first.
Thanks,
Eric

    I ran into a similar problem with PHP and MySQL on my Mac. Apparently the current version of MySQL uses a different password scheme than clients like Perl and PHP. You have to convert your MySQL passwords to the old version. This query worked for me:

    SET PASSWORD FOR 'some_user'@'some_host' = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd');
