JDMK and Legacy IT Management

This article is a good start, but given that the cheapest purchase of the JDMK is $6k, wouldn't it be better to mention some open source alternatives that provide similar functionality? Considering that people who have forked out six grand for this already know more than a single page introduction will tell them, and that people who haven't yet purchased it will probably want to start playing around after reading the article, it would have been nice to see ways to get started immediately.

Unless you're on commission with Sun ;)

    Good point, JDMK has a slightly eye-popping price! To get started immediately, I guess you can download an evaluation version. I haven't tried any of the open source offerings, but many moons ago I did use the CMU code.

    Alas, I'm not on commission with Sun ;-(.

      What does the JDMK give me thats not in the JDK1.5 + jmxtools.jar ? I'm having a hard time discerning the value add...
