In iTunes preferences, hard disk iPods can be set to sync automatically or manually. The behavior you describe is automatic mode. If you change to manual mode (Manually manage songs and playlists" in iTunes prefs), you won't see that message, and you will be able to add tracks from multiple computers. IMO this is one of the few advantages of manual mode -- I usually have my iPod set to automatically sync.

    a "manally manage songs and playlists" option doesnt seem to exist on my itunes!!
    i brought my suffle in cyprus, and they put some free music on it for me (which if poss id like 2 download onto my conputer). ive got it home, plugged it into the computer, and it doesnt recognise that there are any songs in the play list.i tried just loading my own music on to it which i thought would erase the other songs...but it wouldn't. the songs from cyprus are still taking up space but the computer claims they dont exist!please do u know what i need to do?
