Hack:   Bypassing the Mac OS X GUI
Subject:   Login fails (OSX 10.3.5)
Date:   2005-01-19 18:18:07
From:   snies

When I change the /etc/ttys I end up
at a login prompt for Darwin/BSD as planned.

BUT, I can't log in with any user not even
root. The usual graphical mode and the >console way work perfectly.

I have no chance but using command+S to get
back into the system.

Using the approach documented here, there is only the message "Login failed". Using the slightly differnet way discribed on

    www.eddav.dyndns.org/disabling_aqua.html

where also /etc/rc is changed has the same result but also some error message like:

apple.auth.server: user "blabla" failed right system.login.tty

Sorry but i could not copy the code since i could not log in.

Would be glad to here some advice,
snies

  • Login fails (OSX 10.3.8)

Yes, I'm having exactly the same result as snies -- no login allowed. I'm using OS 10.3.8, though. I saw a list of option above the first login prompt, but I couldn't go back to read them. Could one of those options be the solution?
