I've had the same "head clogging" problem with inkjets, which means a few more minutes spent unclogging them before I can make my simple snapshot.

My ancient Epson Stylus Color 800 had troubles with clogged jets and even needed repair once (fortunately while still under warranty). It hasn't been an issue with my +year-old i860 after sometimes going 2-3 weeks without printing. I have auto power off/on set and it takes about half a minute to get warmed up. And there are some occasional delays while it "self-adjusts" during or between printing, typically short enough not to be frustrating.
I do more "general purpose" than photo printing with the i860 but am quite satisfied with the results using iPhoto and PS Elements 2.0 (haven't tried 3.0 yet). I'm already curious about the print quality of images from my wife's new Canon SD200 digicam (that she doesn't know about yet :-)).
Oh, one thing I'm still baffled by is why CUPS doesn't save information to /var/log/cups/page_log like it did when I used an i850 for awhile. Serious attempts to figure that out about six month ago came up empty. I've wanted to have a page count record to help track media consumption.
