I once evaluated complexity metrics against a bunch of functions in my application, and Essential Complexity was a much better metric for complexity than Cyclomatic Complexity. So, please, dump Cyclomatic and go Essential instead. It would do us all a great favour! :-)

Hm, sounds interesting... do you have any pointers towards a place where that's defined? Sounds like a good new rule for PMD....
