I don't think so. Somebody mentioned "slashdot"; that's where to find people telling themselves myths. But the myths chromatic describes are myths like Brooks's man-month: people don't think about them, or verbalize them. If they did, they'd know they aren't true. Instead, they live the myths. One of the things I find really exciting about open source right now is that people are catching on. They're sharing best practices with each other. Sure, much of it is worth what any free advice is worth: what you pay for it. But there are a lot of gold nuggets, and what's more, I'm starting to see people mentoring each other systematically. (Probably it's been happening all along, but either I've become more perceptive, or---I hope---it's becoming more common and visible.)
