We like the fax functionality.


BUT, the utter lack of "answering machine" software on the Mac is a major no-no. Dare you to find any. Believe me, I tried.


Apple's next iApp has to be "iAnswer" - a phone answering machine software.

    There are a few scattered across the web. They tend to include their own modem equivalents, something about the modem Apple installs not being a voice modem.

    I don't know about older machines, but the modems in all the current Macs do not support voice or Caller ID functions. To get these functions you will either need a different modem, or there is a USB-based hardware-software combination device out there that will do Voice Mail and MUCH more, I just can't remember the name of it and I can't find it on Google...
