Well folks, I just visited the HP site again (11/03) looking for this update (I too purchased the 4400C in 2002), the web site now says tha no driver support for OSX will be developed for the 4400 etc. This really sucks. If anyone finds a way to drive this scanner in OSX ir classic please let me know. reddelmt@umdnj.edu

  hello :) i have too an hp 4400 c and OSX installed on my mac... so now i think the only way to make it works is probably under linux... here are some links i found : http://reapoff.sourceforge.net/hpscanner/Default.htm and : http://www.mostang.com/pipermail/sane-devel/2002-November/date.html#5167
  The Hp scanner seems to be in fact a UMAX one with USB converter inside...bah :((
  In fact i don't know how to use these files... if you try just tell me... thanks
