I have been using laptops as external hard drive with desktop Macs over 6-6 FireWire-cable many times with no noticable problems. First you boot your desktop and then connect your laptop via FW 6-6 cable and boot your laptop while holding "T" key down. This makes your laptop function as an external hd for desktop. |

"T" is for disk Target. That makes it easier to remember and thats what it stands for.
