  Is Linux Annoying?

You'll never regret it, and as long you are ok with 6 cds of packages you can forget every dependency problem.

Let's say you want to install package xyz which requires libx liby and libz, well apt just fetches those, installs them, and then installs xyz.

It'a as easy as to type: apt-get install xyz

I know up2date offers similar services, but I prefer to use apt-for-rpm if i'm forced on a redhat system ...

precisely. It's hardly a linux annoyance if you redhat guys can't choose a decent packaging system :)

Oh really? I'm a debian man myself, and I think you're full of it. Sure, the official debian repositories are great--if you can stick with them and only them. Ever try to get decent 3D gaming working on debian with, say, a Radeon 8500? Now THAT'S annoying.

  • Try apt for rpm

apt has been ported to work with rpm packages. It can be downloaded from
    http://freshrpms.net/apt/
    and from
    http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/installapt.html

It's well worth mastering how to configure it.
