The additional restriction Free Software adds is that you may not link free software with nonfree (unless the latter can be made free). That is, you can't use free and nonfree software in the same binary.


This puts some restrictions on for example plug ins, as you can't make a free plugin to a nonfree program. However, the copyright holder may of course specifically permit an exception to the license.

    And within the GPL, this is also split between the full GPL, and the L(ibrary|esser)GPL which permits dynamic linking subject to provisos listed in the license.
