I don't see why the author has written this module. Maybe he can explain it in more detail, so I can understand for which reason this module is out there...

  I'm not sure what more to say. I thought the whole article was about the reasons for writing the module. I wrote a somewhat longer version for IBM dW, but all the basic concepts and motivations are here at ONLamp.
