What am I missing here? And be kind, I know just enough about computers and electronics to do harm to myself and those stupid enough to stand to close to me.


What would stop someone, in theory, from using a pair of the SpeedStream Powerline Ethernet Adapters to share high-speed access between neighbors and friends down the block? The Siemens site says that the network for security reasons ends at you walls. How? And is there a hack?

    Unless you live in a Faraday cage the wireless portion of your network will more than likely transmit beyond the confines of your dwelling. Be sure to use SSL/TLS when sending sensitive info such as passwords, credit card numbers, and any other data you wouldn't send on a postcard.

    Based on experience with X10 devices, I'd guess that the signal could
    make it to other houses attached to the same pole transformer as yours.

    Homeplug specification mandates the use of encrypted data.
    Not even the security keys are transferred in "plain text"
