Down, boy (or girl). To reiterate prev. points:
1) As is, the product not up to fire code. There's effectively no fire code for your house, so you can do pretty much anything stupid you want, but a commercial entity can't. That said, as to your house, remember that stupid stuff voids insurance clauses, so, if any of your stuff is *really* stupid, be prepared to lose everything. Oh, and, if it's a leased/rented property, be prepared to be sued. Welcome to the age of personal responsibility.
2) As to the product, the discussion has already pointed out that this is a prototype, and that a production model would incorporate code-compliant features. Not because they're "pussies," but because no one wants to be responsible for a fire/loss of life, whether or not s/he is sued. And, like it or not, commercial products have to incorporate these kinds of requirements.
