The Dynamic Duo of PEAR::DB and Smarty

The author assumes we all know what Pear::DB and Smarty are. I've been programming for 20 years and doing PHP for 4 and I didn't know about Smarty. I still don't. A short paragraph on each would have clued those of us who didn't know in while not alienating those who did. I'm suprised O'Reilly let this crap through. They usually have higher standards.

You're right; I thought it was more obvious from the context than it is. We'll add a short paragraph of explanation.

    Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for the feedback on the article. You are right about giving a little bit of background in what PEAR::DB and Smarty are - we will add a new introductory paragraph in a bit.

You may also want to look at a previous article about Smarty that got published here:

Introducing Smarty: A PHP Template Engine - http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/php/2002/09/05/smarty.html

    Cheers,
    Joao Prado Maia

P.S.: In the future please tone down your comments. While you are right about needing some introduction about these technologies, my work is certainly not "crap".

How can one take 4(!) years of php programming without ever taking notice of smarty? You must be sitting in a real dark, dull cave. some people need 20 years for things others do in 5, because they are simply trying to do things they never should...
