Some folks just won't face facts. Microsoft has practically created and defined large portions of the market we all profit from. Nobody is forced to buy their software....and their developers and designers are not part of an Axis of Evil.

I don't like some of the decisions Microsoft makes, but it's easier to criticize and demonize # 1 than it is to beat them at their own game. Stop using Microsoft as the excuse for why nobody wants your product.

I agree. Microsoft certainly can benefit from our criticism. (And despite a lot of skepticism out there in the marketplace, I think that they are taking the criticism to heart, albeit gradually and unevenly.) But the criticism should be specific and substantial, not knee-jerk and over-broad. There are an awful lot of people who blame Microsoft whenever they do anything wrong, and attack them whenever they do anything right, arguing that it's a smokescreen. If we want them to improve, we need to praise them when they make good moves, and restrict the criticism to actual wrongdoing.
