Squirrelmail does not require sendmail or imapd, it just requires an SMTP server and an IMAP server. Due to historical security issues, we are running qmail instead of squirrelmail. We also chose Courier IMAP instead of imapd. Squirrelmail works flawlessly with both. Another thing not mentioned is that Squirrelmail has support to run over secured IMAP and HTTP. It's a bit trickier to configure, as you have to know a bit about ports, but far from impossible. All in all, I have been running squirrelmail for over a year on several machines, and I am quite happy with it. -Josh

  I have Installed sequirrelmail 1.4.2..on my linux red hate7.2 PC, its web and mail server as well and running sendmail mail server here....I am not well on IMAP server...I have install squirrelmail on my web root directory without knowing abt IMAP. the squirrelmail is running fine...But I want to be sure about the IMAP is in my Server or not...plz help me...how I can be sure about IMAP????

  I have some problems with squirrelmail installation.
  I have two different servers. One is for webserver, the other one is for mail, and samba server. Both servers are situated behind the router (I have one static IP for all services). Now I would like to set up squirrelmail. Can I use squirrelmail as virtual host in my apache configuration? If yes, how should I setup DocumentRoot for squirrelmail (apache server and mail server are on the different computers). May be I need to run another apache server on the same computer where mail server is? But I have 80 port forward (on the router) only for my web server. So, if somebody have had this situation before and can help me, I'll be happy.
