Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography is more than a how to book on photography. It is an intelligent discussion on many if not all of the aspects of digital imaging.
After a section on the history of digital imaging, the author makes the demonstration that the basic principles of photography still apply to digital photography, and is more than ever relevant.
Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography is truly a wonderful book, and those interested not only about digital photography, but about photography in general will particularly be satisfied. More than 300 pages loaded with information, tips, historical photo and more.
Insightful, interesting and educational, it is probably the best book I have read yet on digital photography. I particularly liked the philosophical discussions about the medium as art, imaging ethics, the role of photographers in the digital age and the section on photo doctoring.
Finally, in this digital age, the author gives his opinion on truly important issues for both the amateur and professional photographer, such as ethics, ownership, copyright, professional respect, social concerns and the environment.
There are lots of books on digital photography those days, but this one is really distinctive.
