This is one of the best books that I have ever read to introduce Ubuntu to new users. The author (Rickford Grant) balances the use of humor and real life examples to keep the readers interest.
The book is uses practical projects to teach the fundamentals of working with Ubuntu. You will not be overwhelmed with the command line. That is not to say that the command line is not introduced though. You will learn some basic commands but the majority of the time will be spent with the graphical tools.
The only thing about the book that I did not agree with was the use of Automatix. This is not a subject that I would have suggested for new users. It would have been better to have taught the reader how to do all of these things with the built in Ubuntu tools.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is wondering what all this Ubuntu (Linux) stuff is all about.
