Rating: This book gives an in-dept analysis of the state of Enterprise JavaBeans today. It delves into the mechanics of EJB and how all the components fit together. Its treatment of JPA is amazing. It also delves a bit into JBOSS implementation of the Specification. It is a wonderful book towering above its peers. My only disappointment is with the treatment of the exercises. They are a bit too rigid and robotic. There was no attempt to vary the way clients access the Beans. The exclusive use of Ant build file to do all the packaging, deployment and running of the client is not helpful to those who use other build tools. Packaging is a critical area in EJB development that required more attention than was given to it in this book. All-in-all if you are serious about EJB's, then this book is a must-have.
