This book is the best I have seen at introducing Linux to new users. A frequent complaint on Linux user group sites and Linux posting sites is a lack of material for folks who have little experience with Linux. This book teaches basic Linux use by giving the user various projects to work on in a step-by-step fashion. Ubuntu is one flavor of Linux particuarly well suited to new Linux users and the book focuses solely on this particular version.

There is roughly one chapter for each project and the project are generally arranged from easier to more difficult. (The exception is projects which need to proceed others for pratical reasons.)

I think that one of the biggest benefits of this book will be convincing new users that it is feasable to use Linux as a primary operating system. I do not recommend the book for experienced users or power users. The projects will not interest programmers either since they use existing funcitonality rather than encourage hacking new code.
