We’ve just opened registration for the 2007 edition of the MySQL Conference & Expo. Hundreds of sessions and tutorials to choose from, thousands of experts and fellow users to connect with, and thirty thousand square feet of exhibitors and DotOrgs to explore, all in an open and fun environment. We’re anticipating that this will be the largest MySQL gathering ever, and invite you to be a part of it.

Early registration pricing (a $200 savings) ends March 14, so get it while you can.

We’re teaming up with the good folks at Canonical to launch Ubuntu Live, the first official gathering of Ubuntu users, contributors, and partners–and the Ubuntu-curious. Ubuntu Live will bring together Ubuntu fans from around the globe to what we’re anticipating will be the largest Ubuntu gathering yet. Ubuntu Live overlaps with OSCON to further connect Ubuntu users with the larger open source community.

The call for participation for Ubuntu Live is now open. Want to help guide the future of Ubuntu? Submit a proposal to speak at the first Ubuntu Live. Proposals are due by February 14, 2007.

Maybe you read about the OpenMoko news on Slashdot? If you want to know more, come to ETel and hear it from Sean Moss-Pulz personally. He’ll be there to present a workshop on getting started developing on the OpenMoko/FIC Neo 1973 platform, its capabilities and possibilities.

Remember, early registration has been extended to January 29, a savings that you can take in conjunction with our Friends & Family discount of 40%. Use discount code etel07fnf40 when you register.

We’ve just unveiled a brand new O’Reilly event, in an area you might not expect–but we think you’ll be just as excited about the subject matter as we are. The first-ever O’Reilly Energy Innovation Conference will take place August 22-24 in San Francisco, and we’ve just opened the call for participation. The event will focus on the technology being used to save energy of all kinds as well as tools that help conserve energy.

As Allison Randal wrote in her O’Reilly Radar post about it: “It’ll be an interesting conference–a cross section of makers, inventors, VCs, university researchers, car manufacturers, petroleum companies, power distribution companies, government departments, and others, all exploring practical solutions to our energy problems.” So we hope to see you there.

We know it’s hard to focus on anything other than home, kin, and shopping during the holidays, so for those of you interested in coming out to ETel but missed the early registration discount cut-off, good news: we’re extending the discount deadline to January 29. And as an extra incentive, we’re offering friends and family (that’s you–and your friends, family, colleagues, coworkers, etc.) an additional 40% off of the early registration price. Visit the registration information page for details.

Finally, do read two O’Reilly Radar posts: Nat Torkington’s on which ETel sessions play on the “breaking down the walled garden theme” and Surj’s about the ETel Launch Pad, a really cool addition to the conference this year.

In his latest newsletter, Phil Windley reports that Tim’s Radar presentation at the 2006 MySQL Conference was the top download for December.

O’Reilly Media is changing the world by spreading the knowledge of innovators. Tim O’Reilly, founder and CEO of O’Reilly Media, gives his popular O’Reilly Radar presentation at the 2006 MySQL Users Conference. The Web 2.0 Summit Launch Pad sessions have been so well-received that we thought it would be A Good Thing to expand the concept to some of other events. So hence the debut of ETel Launch Pad, a showcase for notable telephony-specific start-ups. We’re honored that Om Malik is spearheading this effort (as well as speaking at ETel). We’re accepting Launch Pad submissions only until January 22, so get cracking. And tell a friend.

On another ETel note, we’ve just posted the schedule for the conference, and it looks pretty great (if I do say so myself). In addition to Om and many others, notable speakers include MySpace’s Jason Ling, Tero Ojanpera from Nokia, Yahoo!’s Jeff Bonforte, and Mark Spencer of Asterisk fame.

But you do your best work under pressure, right? So you have until midnight Friday to send us your wild, inspired, location-based ideas that you’d like to present at the third edition of Where 2.0.

Where 2.0 happens at the Fairmont in San Jose May 29-30 this year, so mark your calendar, whether you throw your hat into the speaker ring or not. We’ll open registration next month.

P.S. Worldchanging’s Gil Friend mentioned Where 2.0 in a recent post about What’s Next.
