Full Description

Mastering Visual Studio .NET provides you, as an experienced programmer, with all the information needed to get the most out of the latest and greatest development tool from Microsoft®. It doesn't matter if you're an MFC, C++, STL, ATL, COM, Win32, Visual Basic, C#, HTML, XML, ASP.NET, database, web application, Web service, NT service, stand-alone client, or component programmer targeting Windows® or one of the Windows variants (i.e. Windows CE or the PocketPC) -- this is the book that will help you master the toolkit. Written by experienced developers and trainers John Flanders, Ian Griffiths, and Chris Sells, Mastering Visual Studio .NET begins with fundamental information about maximizing the power of Visual Studio .NET as it comes out of the box, including the following topics:
  • projects and solutions
  • files and the various file editors
  • debugging
  • web projects
  • database projects
  • setup projects
To experience the full spectrum of functionality and extensibility, Mastering Visual Studio .NET provides you with the practical depth and detail needed to best put these features to work. The second section of the book is about extending VS.NET to suit your specific needs:
  • integrating controls and components with VS.NET
  • the VS.NET automation object model
  • macros and add-ins
  • custom wizards
  • the Visual Studio Integration Program (VSIP)
If you're serious about using the VS.NET toolkit, you'll want a book of this magnitude close by. Mastering Visual Studio .NET will take you beyond what you'll read in the standard documentation by offering hints and recommendations that the authors and the community at large have found to be useful after many years of experience.

Good, I adored this book!

Many of the experienced programdores that already I talked on this workmanship, really agree to a thing, the topics of debugging, database, setup projects the author detonated!

It was shining, and add-ins had also made our learning to improve in very with IDE of vs.net.

A friend mine, all the times that come here in house or when I am with this book back in the university is trying to catch it of me....

I find that I go to have that to give one for it of gift!

This is a good book and there aren't any competitive titles that I am aware of. However it falls short of being really useful and practical for me because the book skips some detail and the full source code for the examples isn't available on the web site. WHERE IS THE CODE?!

If good quality sample code was available, I'd give this book 5 stars.

I checked your website, as suggested in your book but...

When are you going to publish "list examples, errata, and any plans for future editions” as promised in the book?

Very quick and a little bit confusing style in first two beta chapters suggests that this is not a book for a begginer.

Also there is no source code for a samples from the book ("to download the source code for this application... see the web page for this book at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog...")

Media reviews "Clearly written and well illustrated, 'Mastering Visual Studio .NET' guides the reader through the steps needed to set up various types of solution, use the visual design tools, and build the application...If you want to extend the capabilities of VS.NET, you'll find loads of valuable information, including how to create your own components and install them into your toolbox."
--"PC Plus," September 2003

"If you use VS.NET, I would definitely recommend this book. Even after using the IDE for nearly a year and a half, there is still a lot that I found new and useful (and wish I knew before!). This book also contains some of the best documentation and instructions I have found for using VS.NET."
