Great reference book for all levels,  March 29 2006

I don't consider myself a web guru but I've made quite a few sites, some professional, some for my work, and some for friends/non-profit conferences. I purchased the first edition way back and it was a major help. It goes through many of the important concepts and essentials in web development with these technologies and is a very complete reference book.

Every section is very clearly layed out and the index is very easy to use. Each language (html, DOM, Javascript, CSS) has its own section with cross refernce. It is weak in that it lacks examples for each function/functionality but as a refernce it is great and is not too clunky or heavy to carry around.

About two years ago I looked up the second edition. The second edition is basically the first edition with a minor additions. It was more up to date but the 4 languages in general have not made such great strides. In that regard the second edition is not a good buy for those with the first edition, but I would definitely recommend it those who need a reference book or even those who do not have a good reference book.

This book is an excellent and essential in-depth reference to web authors. I just bought the 2nd edition to replace my well-worn 1st. It is complete and provides exactly what I need for client-side HTML, scripting, and CSS. The only thing I'd add is a companion book on XML and XSLT written in the same clear down-to-earth style.

I nearly wore out the first edition. About half the size. It was very valuable; I worked out many schemes and solved many problems with its use.

Now, this second edition, most comprehensive. There are many, many answers and lots of just plain good information there, with emphasis on cross-browser; many people just leave it to the wysiwyg tools and create pages with problems.

This book is a bible for those who want to understand the principles.. not just of DHTML, but CSS, DOM, just plain HTML, and relevant aspects of Javascript.

Great book! Danny did a great job. This book never leaves my side and I thank God that he wrote it, because there is definitly a shortage of good DHTML books out there.
