Charlie, this was a really difinitive article. We are looking at FCSvr and hoping that as it catalogs, it will serve us for logging. We currently use Imagine Products (Imagine Products.com) HD Log, but don't think it will work with FCSvr. Any opinion? We are also looking at using Final Share (MaxxDigital.com) on the same Mac Pro (Quad- or 8-Core). Thanks. |

Final Cut Server -- Can it do logging?
Are you working with P2 media? As of Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 (I think), metadata in P2-transfered QuickTime clips is understood by FCP. So, in my experience, the workflow looks like:
1. Create a FCP project for logging use
2. Use Log and Transfer to bring the P2 clips into FCP, with metadata added at ingest intact
3. Import the FCP project into FCSVR, pulling in all the related clips
Let me know if this is helpful. I haven't explored the possibility of using HD Log with FCSVR.
