Subject:   Preamp inputs..

Hello Mark, Thank you for being like the best 'and only ;)' professional review on the internet about the GTR1. You deserve to get paid for this and in today's world, and today's economy, I don't see how companies sell their products without this type of unbiased scrutiny and hands on feedback.. Thanks again!
My question is about your statement

"I like being able to set input levels via hardware, plus there are three basic input sensitivity settings."
and..

"At high gain settings, the preamps are noisy — but so is just about everything else in this price bracket."

You carefully avoid opinions in your comparisons of preamp noise, letting your wav file speak for itself, but the preamp [or the background] noise is 'clearly' louder from these mics on your Taylor guitar wave file [when expanded to 0db] than say the Sony recorder you tested. Notwithstanding your rightful compliments [and audible advantages] of the range or fullness of Sony's onboard mics, I'm curious as to which 'gain' setting you used on the Tascam. Did you use the 'high gain' setting, and if so, would a lower setting used at closer mic range increase the signal to noise ratio on this unit? Thanks for any input. -Jeff
