Review: TASCAM GT-R1 Digital Guitar Recorder

I am a drummer looking to do two things with a recorder use as a learning tool(looping) and recording rehersals. I have seached the net and can't seem to find much info on how well these field recorders handle loud music. I know the GR-R1 is for guitar players but why couldn't a drummer use it? Another thing I am wonder could I download play-along tracks to the GR-R1 and than overdub live drums as a practice learning tool?

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to use the GT-R1 for looping, band rehearsal and overdubbing to play-a-long tracks.

The biggest issue with recording loud sounds like rock bands, bagpipes, jets and my snoring is the potential to overload the pre-amps at the input stage. This is true across the board--few recorders in this price range have pads on the inputs.

I sent my review unit back, so I cannot do a test recording for you. Maybe you, or someone else, can check it out and post your findings here?
