Since Carbon is a 32-bit architecture and new Macs are increasinly 64-bit, Carbon is slowly on its way out. It has done its job of easing the migration from MacOS 9 and the PPC platform and now all new applications will need to use Cocoa, or an API that is built and maintained on top of Cocoa.


Work is now being done to provide a Cocoa based version of SWT:

I see this as good news, since this potentially means better MacOS X integration.
