There is no option in Vista to easily organize your Start menu. I have dozens of programs I use due to the nature of my Internet marketing and website design business that I would group into categories such as; Multi-media, Utilities, Graphics, Internet, Office Suites, etc. When I need a Graphics program like Photoshop I can quickly find it in the Graphics folder (category). If I need SwishMax I can quickly find it in Multi-media. Vista does not offer the ability to group your Start menu shortcuts so I now have to scroll through every shortcut folder to find what I am looking for. Then there are the programs that insert shortcuts into the Start menu in both the main list and a sub folder list. It is a mess that I can not easily clean up. In Windows 98 I could at least move shortcuts and folders around easily using Windows Explorer but in Vista, they are not in one place.
